Like most photographers I am obsessed by what makes a pleasing composition. The spiral, defined mathematically by Fibonacci, is one pattern that appears repeatedly in nature and forms the basis of many excellent compositions. Designers and architects also use the Fibonacci spiral, as in the famous staircase in the Vatican. I have been photographing Nautilus shells for some years - they are perfect Fibonacci sequences.
