Mitosis, the simple replication of cells, is the basis of all life. This series of images apparently reveals cuboidal cells in division. They are in fact a reflection of golden autumnal trees on the surface of a pond. Perhaps it is a reflection of life itself. It is a record of a unique moment in time – never to be repeated – just like the fleeting moment when cells divide. Gigi visited this pond many times and at many times of the day to get just the right interplay of light. As people walked past her they couldn’t understand her fascination, as they didn’t see what she could see. Gigi could see life evolving.
