Animalia Monochromatique
This exhibition is based on our work in Namibia in 2017 where we travelled over 5,000 km in our 4WD across the length and breadth of the country to capture images of most of the endemic species. We spent many, many, hours at key locations waiting patiently for the animals – especially the predators. When the ‘moments’ occur however they are brief, exciting, sometimes humorous and occasionally rather frightening! There is something special about working in monochrome – or Black-and-White. The absence of colour forces us to focus on shape, texture, form, action or expression. It has echoes of a different time, when these animals were hunted relentlessly for pleasure – tourists carried guns not telephoto lenses.
