March 2026 saw us in Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) – more of a holiday than a serious photographic trip. This teardrop shaped tropical island in the Indian Ocean has three principal types of landscape: the high central mountains with Tea plantations, the flat surrounding areas given over to rice paddy fields and coconut plantations and the white sandy coves and beaches surrounding the island. The wildlife is truly world class; with over 25 National Parks on an island the size of Tasmania! We spent time in two: Mineriya, principally for Indian Elephant, and Yala for Leopard. We also managed to photograph a cross-section of Sri Lanka’s huge bird population.
